Vista Railings. Quiet design, loud confidence.

Half a century of railing installs taught Vista one thing: fewer components means fewer callbacks. Fully assembled posts, pre-engineered to NBC guard-rail code, 25-year limited warranty from a brand that's been at it since before most of our customers had a backyard. Textured Black and White stocked in Saskatoon and Regina; cable and glass infill to order.

Meet the Vista lineup

Three systems. One Prairie-proven brand. Built for the view.

Every Vista system shares the same powder-coated aluminum frame and 25-year warranty — the difference is the infill, the look, and what you want the railing to do for your deck. Read each before you spec.

Picket Rail

The Prairie workhorse. Pre-assembled posts, aluminum pickets, stocked at depth.

Vista Picket Rail is the aluminum railing system we stock the deepest. Textured Black picket packages from 4' to 8' runs at 36" and 42" heights are on the shelf at both stores right now. White is stocked too. Pre-assembled posts mean you're installing a finished system, not piecing components together on site — that matters whether you're DIY-ing the build or your contractor is billing by the hour. UV powder coat is formulated for Prairie freeze-thaw and UV without the maintenance headache of painted steel or stained wood. Standard and stair kits both in stock; gates in Textured Black at 48". The 25-year warranty covers the whole system. If you're building a deck in Saskatoon or Regina this season and you want the railing done right without the lead time, this is your starting point.

“Vista Picket is the railing I spec first when someone walks in with a standard deck build. Pre-assembled posts install fast — that matters whether you're doing it yourself or paying a contractor by the hour. Textured Black works with everything: composite, cedar trim, brick. We've got 6-foot 42" packages on the shelf and they move every week of the season.”

Cable Rail

Unobstructed sightlines. Contemporary aesthetic. Built around the view.

Vista Cable Rail puts stainless steel cables through an aluminum post-and-rail frame. The result is a railing that disappears from your sightline and lets the view do the work. If you're building on a lot with a backyard view or a lake property where the water is the point, cable is the system to spec. The aluminum frame handles Prairie freeze-thaw the same as Vista's picket system — no rust, no rot, no painting. Properly tensioned cable holds its line through seasonal movement without going slack or requiring annual adjustment. Available to order with stocked posts in Textured Black; our build team specs the run length, post spacing, and cable count for your project.

“Cable is the system that makes people stop and look when they walk onto a deck. Right for contemporary Prairie builds — especially with a darker composite like Trex Transcend Island Mist or Eva-Last Pioneer. The call I make before recommending cable is the view question: if the view is the reason you built the deck, cable is the answer. If you're on a busy street corner and privacy matters, picket or glass is the better spec.”

Vista Textured Black frameless glass railing posts with tempered glass panels on an elevated Prairie deck — premium view-forward aluminum railing system
Luxury Tier
Frameless option

Glass Rail

Frameless or framed. Tempered glass. The premium railing system.

Vista Glass Rail is what you spec when the view is non-negotiable. Frameless glass with 2-1/2" aluminum posts gives you a railing that's nearly invisible from inside the house — tempered glass panels from 24×36 up to 48×36 in 6mm clear. Framed glass for a more structured look. Textured Black frameless glass end posts and 90-degree posts are stocked at TUDS; full panel glass kits are available to order. Glass requires more maintenance than picket or cable — an annual wash with the right cleaner keeps panels clear and tracks clean. If you're building a covered outdoor living space, rooftop deck, or lakeside retreat where the view is the feature, this is the system.

“Glass is the railing call you make when the view is the whole point of the deck. Frameless reads almost invisible from inside the house. Worth knowing the maintenance trade-off — glass needs a wash a few times a season to stay clear. For lakeside or rooftop builds, nothing else competes.”

The three questions we get at the railing wall — and what we'd actually say.

"Picket, cable, or glass — which Vista system is right for my deck?"
Shane · Co-owner
Shane · Co-owner

Three things drive the call: view, budget, and maintenance tolerance. Picket is the classic, stocked deep, works with every deck style and the most cost-effective. Cable is the contemporary move — stainless cables let the view breathe through the railing, and aluminum handles Prairie winters the same as picket. Glass is the premium call — frameless panels are nearly invisible, ideal for lakeside or rooftop. Picket is nearly zero-maintenance; cable needs an occasional tension check; glass needs a wash a few times a season. Walk both stores and touch the systems — the decision usually gets easier in person. If you're cross-shopping, we also stock Regal Ideas and Fortress AL13.

"What height railing do I need on a Saskatchewan deck — 36" or 42"?"
Wade · Co-owner
Wade · Co-owner

The National Building Code sets the standard. Decks 600mm (about 24") or less above grade need a 36" guard rail minimum. Decks more than 600mm above grade require 42". Most Prairie decks that are more than one step up will be 42". For pool surrounds or anywhere kids will be, 42" is the right call regardless. Vista stocks both heights in Textured Black — 36" and 42" picket packages, posts, and stair kits are on-shelf at TUDS. Measure your deck height from grade and bring that number in; we'll confirm the code requirement for your specific situation. Get an instant estimate and we'll factor it into your spec.

"Does Vista railing work with composite decking — and what pairs cleanest?"
Shane · Co-owner
Shane · Co-owner

Yes — Vista mounts to deck framing independent of what's on top. Pairs with any composite, PVC, or wood. The combinations that work best: Trex Transcend Island Mist or Tiki Torch with Vista Textured Black cable rail (contemporary, dark-on-dark). Eva-Last Pioneer in lighter tones with Vista White picket (classic Prairie). Fiberon Sanctuary Chai with Textured Black picket (warm-brown deck with a sharp geometric border). Black powder coat works with almost everything; White is best with light-toned decking and pale siding.

FAQ

The questions we get — before the estimate.

Don't see yours? Call either store and one of our Escape Artists will help.

Yes. TUDS is an Authorised Canadian Vista dealer with real inventory in Saskatoon (320 68th Street East) and Regina (141 4th Avenue East). Textured Black picket is stocked at depth at both stores. Cable and glass systems are available to order with build-team support on the spec. We deliver across Saskatchewan and into Alberta and Manitoba — call either yard for a freight quote on your address and run length.

The National Building Code sets the standard. Decks 600mm (~24") or less above grade require a 36" guard rail. Decks more than 600mm above grade require 42". Most Prairie decks more than one step up will be 42". When in doubt, go 42" and you're code-compliant in either case. Vista stocks both heights in Textured Black — picket packages, posts, and stair kits.

Five powder-coat finishes: Textured Black, Gloss Black, White, Textured Bronze, and Textured Grey. At TUDS, Textured Black and White are stocked at depth across the picket system — the others are available to order. Physical samples are recommended before finalizing colour; come into either store to see Textured Black in person.

Vista markets the system as installer-friendly: pre-assembled posts and straightforward installation. That said, a deck railing has to meet code for guard height, structural attachment, and load resistance. If you're confident framing the attachment points and reading a spec sheet, Vista is DIY-able. If your project has complex angles, stairs, or grade changes, our build team can walk you through the components before you start — saves time and rework on site.

Yes. Vista aluminum railing mounts to the deck framing independent of what's on top — it pairs with any composite, PVC, or wood decking. Textured Black is the finish that works cleanest with most composites; darker boards like Trex Transcend Island Mist or Eva-Last Pioneer deeper tones look sharp with black railing. White picket works well with lighter composites like Fiberon Sanctuary Chai or Trex Lineage.

Infill material and the look it creates. Picket uses aluminum vertical pickets — classic, privacy-forward, most cost-effective, stocked deepest. Cable uses horizontal stainless steel cables — contemporary, view-forward, sightlines stay open. Glass uses tempered glass panels (frameless or framed) — premium, nearly-invisible, best for lakeside or rooftop builds. All three use aluminum posts and rails and carry Vista's 25-year warranty.

Vista's 25-year limited lifetime warranty covers the system against material defects, structural failure, and finish degradation. In practice, properly installed aluminum railing with UV powder coat should outlast the deck it's attached to in Prairie conditions — no rust, no rot, no repainting required. Maintenance is nearly zero: an occasional wash with a non-abrasive cleaner (TUDS SUDS works well) and an annual check on post attachment.

Use the deck railing calculator above — it pulls live Shopify variant prices, so the number you see is current. Quick ranges: Picket is the most cost-effective (Most stocked tier), Cable mid-tier, Glass premium. Total project cost depends on run length, post count, gate count, and stair sections — get an instant estimate for a real number. We deliver across Saskatchewan and into Alberta and Manitoba; call either yard for freight on your specific address.

Quick facts

Vista Railings — what you actually need to know

  • Founded 1974 — 50+ years of railing

Vista has been engineering aluminum + glass railing systems since before most Prairie homeowners had a backyard. Half a century of iteration on assembly speed, code compliance, and finish durability.

  • 25-year limited lifetime warranty

The longest residential warranty in the aluminum railing category at TUDS. Powder-coat finish + structural aluminum both covered for residential.

  • NBC guard-rail code engineered

Engineered to Canadian National Building Code load + height requirements. 36-inch and 42-inch deck panels both meet code without site engineering.

  • Fully assembled posts

Posts ship pre-assembled — fewer components, faster install, fewer callbacks. The fundamental Vista shortcut.

  • Powder-coat finish library

Textured Black + Gloss White stocked year-round at both TUDS yards. Cable + glass infill ship from vendor in 2-4 days.

  • Three systems on one post

Picket, Cable, and Glass infill all use the same Vista post + bracket system. Switch infill mid-deck-run without changing the substructure.
