Joist tape acts as a barrier to protect your joist, and other parts of your deck substructure, from the elements.
This layer of protection seals the deck from moisture, preventing rot, decay and corrosion giving your deck a longer lifespan.

Does Joist tape work?
The answer is definitely YES! You can read more on specific tests done by G-tape like the Long Term Water Sealability report, as well as their Long Term Stability Test.
How do you apply Joist tape?
How do you apply Joist tape?
Make sure the top surfaces of your deck joists are clean and free from dirt, dust, and debris. Next you'll want to measure the length of each joist where you plan to apply the tape. Cut the joist tape into the appropriate lengths using scissors or a utility knife. Start at one end of the joist and peel back a portion of the protective backing on the joist tape. Align the tape with the top surface of the joist and press it down firmly. As you go, continue to peel back the backing and press the tape down, ensuring it adheres smoothly and without wrinkles. Do you need joist tape on pressure treated wood?
Do you need joist tape on pressure treated wood?
Although pressure-treated wood is treated with chemicals to resist decay and rot, that doesn't make it completely immune to moisture infiltration. Using joist tape on your pressure-treated wood will give it an extra layer of protection increasing it's lifespan.
What happens to G-tape as it ages?
What happens to G-tape as it ages?
G-tape is tested for performance over time by being exposed to a Zenon UV test chamber set to simulate Miami Beach on a clear day, and was exposed to those conditions for the equivalent of 15 years. At the end of test the tape only saw a 30% drop in tensile strength, which means that even after 15 years G-tape retains well over half it's strength!
