This is actually where steel beats wood by the largest margin. Wood absorbs water in fall, freezes in November, and the expanding ice cracks the wood from the inside out — that's what causes the splintering and structural failure you see in old fence posts. Steel doesn't absorb water and doesn't crack. The post-in-concrete combination is rigid through the entire freeze cycle. We've installed PostMaster on Saskatoon and Regina builds since 2018 and never paid a freeze-related warranty claim.

Master Halco's vertical install spec calls for 30 inches below grade as a minimum for a standard 6-foot fence (so the post sits 7 feet above ground using the 10' length). On the Prairies, we recommend 36 inches to clear frost depth — roughly 4 feet of frost in Saskatoon, but the steel-in-concrete combination tolerates frost-heave far better than wood, so 36" is enough for residential fences. 9-inch diameter hole, fast-set concrete (one bag per post), set plumb, let cure 24 hours before loading. The pre-galvanized version is bare steel with a hot-dip galvanized coating from the mill — it'll surface-oxidize lightly over years but the coating itself is what carries the lifetime warranty against structural rust. The textured black powder-coat version adds a second layer of protection and looks finished from day one. Master Halco guarantees the powder coat against peeling and flaking. If you want the post to disappear behind cedar boards, galvanized is fine; if it's visible, go black.

Cedar privacy (vertical or horizontal), vinyl panels, chain-link, ornamental steel/aluminum, lattice. The post itself is a universal mount — pre-pierced for fence brackets and standard fence-rail hardware. The same post system carries any of the major fence types Prairie homeowners install. If you're using cedar 1x6 boards, pair with a Simpson FB24Z 2x4 bracket (linked above) for clean rail-to-post connections.

Yes. 10-foot steel posts ship LTL freight (oversized) — call either yard for a freight quote on your address and post count. Pickup is also available at both Saskatoon (320 68th Street East) and Regina (141 4th Avenue East). For larger contractor orders we coordinate direct-to-jobsite delivery.

Master Halco's PostMaster carries a Lifetime Limited Warranty — covers structural integrity (no rot, no twist, no crack) and the powder-coat finish (no peel/flake). Vendor owns the warranty claim process.
