Authorized Fortress AL13 Home dealer

Fortress AL-13 Home Railing pre-welded panels, lifetime peace of mind.

Every baluster set, every weld complete, every panel powder-coated over zinc pre-treatment — before it ships. AL13 Home panels go on the deck frame in a fraction of the time individual pickets take, and the finish is consistent because it was done under controlled factory conditions, not on a windy Saturday. Lifetime warranty. Black Sand and Matte White in stock at both TUDS yards.

Meet the AL13 Home styles

Three styles. One system. Every prairie deck answered.

Same lifetime warranty, same FortressLock powder coat, same NBC-compliant Canadian frame. The choice is sightline: classic picket, cable, or full-glass — all stocked in Black Sand and Matte White.

Picket panels

The classic AL13 Home look. Square balusters factory-welded into the rail — drop-in install, every Prairie deck's safe answer.

The picket panel is the workhorse of the AL13 Home line — and the reason most Prairie homeowners pick AL13 Home in the first place. Square aluminum balusters are welded into the top and bottom rail at the factory. You're not setting individual pickets on site, you're dropping a finished panel between two posts. Available in 6' and 8' level runs and adjustable stair panels that handle up to 40° without cutting. Both Black Sand and Matte White stocked at depth in both stores.

The Canada-specific 44.5" panel is Intertek-tested for the National Building Code's elevated-deck guard rail requirement. If your deck sits more than 600mm above grade — which covers most Prairie builds — this is the panel that meets code with margin to spare.

“If you're building a standard prairie deck — 300 square feet, one stair run, nothing exotic — Black Sand picket panels are the answer. The pre-welded format saves a full afternoon of labour vs setting individual pickets, and the lifetime warranty is a real lifetime warranty. This is what I'd put on my own build.”

Fortress AL13 Home vertical cable rail panel — stainless cable infill in an aluminum frame, clean sightlines for prairie lake decks
Style Tier
View-friendly

Vertical cable

Stainless cable infill, aluminum frame. Nearly-invisible sightlines without the price of glass.

Vertical cable trades the picket for tensioned stainless steel cable strung vertically inside an aluminum frame. The visual effect is dramatic: from across the yard, you essentially see through the railing, which is why cable is the default pick for lake-side decks and any property where the view is the point. Available in 6' and 8' panels, both Black Sand and Matte White frames in stock.

Code-compliance note: vertical cable spacing is engineered to meet the same 4" sphere rule as pickets — children can't pass through. Cable tension is set at the factory, not in the field, so install is as fast as the picket panel. ATR still required.

“If you've got a view — lake, valley, river, prairie horizon — the vertical cable panel disappears in a way picket can't. We sell more cable to lake properties than to in-town builds, but it works either way. Cable is also a slightly thinner profile than picket, so visually it reads as more contemporary.”

Fortress AL13 Home PureView glass railing panel — 6mm tempered glass in an aluminum frame, fully transparent sightline for prairie deck and balcony views
Style Tier
Premium sightline

PureView glass

6mm tempered glass in the same AL13 Home aluminum frame. Total transparency.

PureView is AL13 Home's glass-infill option — 6mm tempered glass panels mounted top-and-bottom into a powder-coated aluminum rail. The effect is a fully transparent sightline that picket and cable can't match, with the same lifetime warranty backing the aluminum frame. Glass is the right call when the deck is a feature room of the house — covered patios, second-storey decks with a view, lake-front properties.

One trade-off to know: glass shows fingerprints and smudges; plan for periodic cleaning. We stock the glass panels and the matching aluminum top/bottom rails — talk to either store about quantity for your specific deck dimensions.

“Glass is what you spec when the deck is the room. Second-storey deck off the kitchen, covered patio with a view, lake-front — glass disappears, the view stays. It's the most expensive style in the line, but the lifetime warranty on the aluminum frame is the same as picket. You're paying for the sightline.”

The three questions we get on aluminum railing — and what we'd actually say.

"What height aluminum railing do I need in Saskatchewan — 36, 42, or 44.5 inch?"
Wade · Co-owner
Wade · Co-owner

National Building Code: 36" minimum for guards on decks within 600mm of grade, 42" minimum for guards on decks more than 600mm above grade. Most Prairie decks built on treated lumber frames are in the 42" category. AL13 Home's Canada-specific 44.5" panel sits comfortably above the 42" minimum and was Intertek-tested specifically against Canadian NBC requirements — this is a dedicated Canadian SKU, not a re-labelled US-spec panel. We stock it in both Black Sand and Matte White. If the deck is close to grade and 36" is appropriate, we'll spec the right SKU — bring your deck height and we'll confirm.

Shop AL13 Home Railing
"Do I really need the Accent Top Rail (ATR) — or is it optional?"
Shane · Co-owner
Shane · Co-owner

It's required — not optional. AL13 Home panels arrive without a finished top surface; the ATR is what completes the rail and gives you the smooth grippable top edge a code inspector and your hand both expect. We stock it in both colours from $14.79 and we'll tell you the linear footage you need before you check out. Don't start your install without it in the cart — it catches first-time DIYers more than any other AL13 Home spec detail.

Add ATR to your build
"How does AL13 Home compare to Vista or Regal Ideas?"
Wade · Co-owner
Wade · Co-owner

We carry all three lines and they each lean differently. AL13 Home is the most budget-accessible aluminum railing in the lineup, with the longest warranty (lifetime) and the simplest 2-finish stocking story. Vista leans toward broader colour palette (5 powder-coat finishes available) and a Canadian-made story with a 25-year warranty. Regal Ideas is also Canadian-made and leans toward the fastest picket install (Lock-In-Picket snap-fit) plus integrated LED lighting paths. Comparison table below has the side-by-side. Honest answer: bring your project to either store and we'll match you to the right system, not push the highest-margin one.

Lighting note (NEW 2026): the new HOFT solar post caps fit AL13 Home posts perfectly — same 3" post profile. Solar-charged, no wiring runs needed. See the solar-cap card below in Complete your AL13 Home build. If you want brighter wired LEDs, Regal Ideas is still the call.

Deck cost calculator

Ballpark every tier, side by side.

Railing isn't a single SKU — the price-per-foot you see on a picket pack doesn't include posts, top + bottom rail, caps, or base plates. The number that matters is the full system, and it depends on post spacing, infill choice, and corners.

Aluminum picket railing ~$95-$140 / lin ft
Aluminum + glass infill ~$155-$245 / lin ft
Cable + aluminum frame ~$185-$285 / lin ft
Composite + aluminum frame ~$135-$210 / lin ft

Ranges are materials only, full system — posts (every 6-8 ft), top + bottom rail, infill, post caps, base plates. Stair runs, custom angles, and gate frames push toward the high end.

Material only. Framing, fasteners, and labour quoted separately.

FAQ

The AL13 Home questions we get — before the quote.

Don't see yours? Call either store and one of our Escape Artists will help.

Yes — and we'd say so even if we didn't sell it. AL13 Home's defining feature is the pre-welded panel: square balusters welded into the frame at the factory, so install is dramatically faster than picket-by-picket systems. The FortressLock powder coat is engineered for Prairie freeze-thaw and full-sun UV — we've had panels in Saskatchewan yards for years without finish failure. The lifetime limited residential warranty is real and Fortress administers claims directly. If you're cross-shopping, we also stock Vista and Regal Ideas — see the comparison table on this page.

No — TUDS only stocks AL13 Home, the residential pre-welded panel line. The full AL13 commercial range (specified for higher-load commercial applications) is a different product family. For residential decks, AL13 Home covers picket, vertical cable, and PureView glass styles in two finishes. If your project is commercial or requires the full AL13 spec, contact either store and we'll discuss sourcing.

Three styles: Picket panels (the volume mover, square balusters factory-welded), Vertical cable (stainless cable infill, view-friendly), and PureView glass (6mm tempered glass for full transparency). All three styles are available in Black Sand and Matte White finishes. Adjustable stair panels are stocked for picket and cable. Gates: adjustable gate kits stocked in both colours.

Yes. Fortress produces a Canada-specific 44.5" panel for the AL13 Home line — Intertek-tested against National Building Code guard rail requirements. This is a dedicated Canadian SKU, not a re-labelled US product. For elevated decks in Saskatchewan (over 600mm above grade), the 44.5" Canadian panel is the correct specification. TUDS stocks it in Black Sand and Matte White. Bring your deck-height measurement to either store and we'll confirm the right panel for your build.

Yes — the ATR is required, not optional. AL13 Home panels do not include a finished top surface; the ATR completes the top edge of every panel. We stock the ATR in Black Sand and Matte White from $14.79 in multiple profile styles. Calculate your deck perimeter in linear feet, match ATR sections to your panel count, and add it to cart with panels. Forgetting the ATR is the most common first-time AL13 Home spec mistake.

Pricing reads live from current Shopify variants — visit the AL13 Home collection for current panel, post, and ATR prices. For a full project number including panels, posts, ATR, brackets, and gates, get an instant estimate with your deck dimensions or come into either store and we'll spec the full system. Total cost depends on linear footage, number of stairs, and which style (picket / cable / glass) you select.

Yes — AL13 Home is genuinely DIY-friendly. The pre-welded panels remove the slowest part of a railing install (setting individual pickets), and the 4-step sequence (set posts → drop panels → install ATR → cap posts) is well-documented in Fortress's own YouTube install video. The skill bar is basic carpentry tools, accurate drilling, and following the ATR sequence. If your project has complex angles, multiple stair runs, or grade changes, talk to either store before you start — we'll spec the bracket mix.

Yes — completely different products. AL13 Home is residential aluminum railing (this page). Fortress Evolution is steel deck framing — the substructure that goes UNDER the deck boards. They're both made by Fortress but they live in different parts of the deck build. TUDS carries both. If you're planning a deck and want both the framing and the railing in one quote, talk to either store and we'll spec the full system.

Yes — and this is one of our favourite cross-brand pairings. The new Hoft solar post caps fit AL13 Home posts perfectly — same 3" post profile. Solar-charged, no wiring runs needed, no transformer, no electrician. They charge by day off-grid and light at night. NEW for 2026 at TUDS, available at both stores. Honest trade-off vs Regal Ideas' wired plug-and-play LED post-cap system: solar caps are simpler to install (literally drop them on the post) but the light output is lower than wired LEDs. If you want bright, dependable post lighting, wired is still the better answer; if you want cap lights without running wire to the deck, the Hoft solar caps on AL13 Home posts are the easy win. See the Hoft brand hub for full details.
