Cutek Extreme. The wood oil that keeps Prairie wood alive.

Penetrating, self-healing oil — not a film-forming stain. It diffuses into the wood and protects from inside out, so it can't peel, flake, or blister. Add a Colourtone tint to slow the silver, or run it clear and let your cedar age the way it wants. Stocked in Saskatoon and Regina year-round.

Meet the Cutek family

Three sizes. Nineteen tints. One way to keep wood alive.

Cutek Extreme is the wood oil. Colourtones are the tints that mix into it. Quickclean, Wood Reviver, and Stripper are the prep. Pick the size that fits your project, then pair it with a tint or run it clear.

Cutek Extreme 3.6L bottle (0.95 US gallon) — penetrating wood-protection oil for cedar and hardwood decks in Saskatoon and Regina
Single deck Tier
Most popular

Cutek Extreme 3.6L

0.95 US gallon — covers an average single-family deck in one buy. The size most homeowners walk out with.

Cutek Extreme is an oil-based wood stabilizer that diffuses INTO the wood instead of sitting on top of it. That's the whole pitch: nothing to peel, blister, or flake — when it's time to refresh, you clean and re-coat without sanding or stripping. The 3.6L jug is sized for a typical residential deck (roughly 240-330 ft² at one well-prepped coat per Cutek's 2025 coverage guide). Pair it with a Colourtone tint to control how the wood ages, or apply clear and let cedar silver naturally.

“If you've got one deck and a couple of fence runs to oil this season, get the 3.6L. One coat on prepped cedar gets you about 250 sq ft — that's most Prairie decks in one shot. Pair it with a Cedartone or Ashwood Colourtone to keep the wood looking fresh longer.”

Cutek Extreme 18.9L pail (5 US gallon) — bulk wood-protection oil for large decks, fences, and contractor projects in Saskatchewan
Big project Tier

Cutek Extreme 18.9L

5 US gallons — for big multi-deck builds, fence-and-deck combos, or a contractor running through a few projects.

The 18.9L pail covers roughly 1,250-1,750 ft² at one prepped coat — enough for a large deck plus the fence, or two average decks back-to-back. If you're refinishing a whole property after a winter or running a small finishing crew through a few jobs in May, the bulk price-per-litre saves real money over buying four or five 3.6L jugs. We stock both sizes year-round in Saskatoon and Regina.

“If you're doing a deck plus a fence, just get the 18.9L. Math works out cheaper than three 3.6L jugs, and Cutek stores well — the leftover is your re-coat in 12 months. We've got a few customers who buy a 5-gallon every 18 months and that covers everything in their yard.”

Cutek Colourtone tints

Mix 1-2 cans per US gallon of Cutek Extreme. Control how your wood ages — or run it clear and let cedar silver.

Colourtones are 90mL (3oz) concentrated tint cans that you mix INTO Cutek Extreme before applying. They're not stains in the conventional sense — they piggyback on Cutek's penetrating-oil chemistry, so the colour goes into the wood with the oil and won't peel off the surface. We stock the popular Cedartone, Ashwood, Black Ash, Espresso, Walnut, Cedartone, Goldtone, Autumntone, and Burnt Red in Saskatoon and Regina year-round; the rest of the 19-colour line ships in 7-10 days from Cutek's Canadian warehouse.

How to apply Cutek

The four-step process — and what we'd actually say.

"Step 1 — Prep. The 80% nobody wants to hear about."
Wade · Co-owner
Wade · Co-owner

If the wood's dirty or grey, Cutek won't penetrate properly. Use Cutek Quickclean for routine prep — it strips the surface grime that builds up from the previous coat. If the deck is significantly weathered or has tannin/iron/water stains, step up to Cutek Wood Reviver (ProClean) which restores the grain. Wood needs to be clean, dry, and below 17% moisture content before Cutek goes on. Skip this step and the oil sits on top instead of diffusing in — that's the failure mode you want to avoid.

Shop Cutek Quickclean
"Step 2 — Coat all faces. Once."
Shane · Co-owner
Shane · Co-owner

Cutek's spec calls for ONE coat applied to all six faces of the wood — top, bottom, both edges, both ends — before the deck goes together. If your deck is already built (which most are by the time you're oiling), you do what you can: top + edges + ends with a brush, work it in with a roller. Oil-soaked rags go in a sealed metal can full of water — Cutek is oil-based and rags can self-heat as they cure. We sell 7" Deck Boss brushes + 2.5" cutting-in brushes as the right tools.

Shop Cutek brushes
"Step 3 — Wait for it to penetrate. Then a second coat on the top."
Wade · Co-owner
Wade · Co-owner

Once the first coat has fully penetrated/diffused (anywhere from a few hours to a day depending on the wood + temperature), apply a second coat to the top surface only. The second coat is what builds the colour depth if you're using a Colourtone. On vertical surfaces (cladding, fence boards, balusters) one coat is enough. Cutek wants 3-5 days of dry weather after coating to fully diffuse — don't oil if rain is forecast. If rain hits within the first 24 hours, wipe the puddle off and let it continue drying — usually no harm done.

"Step 4 — Recoat in 12-18 months. No stripping."
Shane · Co-owner
Shane · Co-owner

This is the part most homeowners haven't seen before because film-forming stains don't work this way. Cutek doesn't peel because it's not a film — when colour fades, you clean the deck with Quickclean, dry it, and apply ONE coat of Colourtoned Cutek Extreme. No sanding. No stripping. No cyclical maintenance death-spiral that drives most cedar-deck owners to rip everything out and switch to composite. If you keep up with the 12-18 month refresh, a Cutek-protected cedar deck holds up beautifully for decades.

Cutek Extreme vs every other deck finish

Penetrating oil vs film-forming stain — different chemistry, different failure modes.

Scope: Cutek Extreme (penetrating oil) compared with the three deck-finish categories Prairie homeowners actually weigh against it: solid-colour stain, semi-transparent stain, and film-forming sealer/spar varnish. The point isn't that one is universally better — they fail differently. Cutek shines on cedar + hardwood + maintained pressure-treated; opaque stains shine when you need to hide a beat-up deck.

Because film-forming stains peel. Cutek Extreme penetrates INTO the wood — it can't peel because there's no surface film to fail. When the colour fades you clean the deck and apply ONE refresh coat. No stripping, no sanding, no twelve-hour death-spiral every two years. The trade-off is Cutek won't hide a beat-up deck the way an opaque stain will, and it needs 3-5 days of dry weather to fully cure. For Prairie homeowners with cedar or hardwood decks (or pressure-treated they actually want to maintain), Cutek's the best chemistry on the market.

Per Cutek's 2025 technical guide: deck tops in full sun typically need a refresh after 12-18 months. Vertical surfaces (cladding, fence boards, balusters) hold colour much longer — often 3-5 years between recoats. Cutek-protected wood doesn't fail catastrophically — it just gets lighter — so you can stretch the interval if you don't mind some weathering. The refresh process is clean (with Quickclean) and apply ONE coat — no stripping required.

Yes — when you use a Colourtone. Clear Cutek Extreme protects the wood from inside out but allows the natural greying process to continue (some homeowners want this — silvered cedar is beautiful). Add a Cedartone, Ashwood, or Walnut Colourtone and the tint maintains the fresh-wood appearance for 12-18 months on deck tops. Vertical surfaces hold colour even longer. The greying is UV-driven, so south-facing full-sun decks fade fastest; shaded decks can hold a Colourtone for 2+ years.

Only if the existing finish is also a penetrating oil that's worn enough to absorb more product. If the deck currently has a film-forming stain (solid colour, semi-transparent that has built up film, or a sealer/spar), you have to strip it down first with Cutek Wood Stripper until raw wood absorbs water again. Cutek can't penetrate through a film. If you're not sure what's currently on the deck, splash water on it — if it beads, there's still a film. If it absorbs, you're probably good to clean and apply.

Wipe any standing puddles off with a clean cloth and let the deck continue drying. Cutek wants 3-5 days of dry conditions to fully diffuse, so a rain in the first day extends the cure time but rarely ruins the application. The bigger problem is if rain hits while the oil is still wet on the surface (within ~6 hours) — you can get water-mark patches that don't penetrate evenly. If that happens, let everything fully dry then sand the affected spot lightly and re-apply. Plan your application around a 5-day dry-weather window — Environment Canada's 7-day forecast is your friend.

Cutek explicitly does NOT offer specific performance warranties (including for colour retention) — application variables (wood condition, prep, coats applied, weather, exposure) are outside their control. What they DO offer is a recoat-as-needed maintenance model: when colour fades, you refresh with one coat instead of stripping and starting over. That's a different value proposition than a warranted product, but it's the honest one for a penetrating-oil chemistry.

Yes — Cutek Extreme (3.6L + 18.9L) and the popular Colourtones (Cedartone, Ashwood, Black Ash, Espresso, Walnut, Goldtone, Autumntone, Burnt Red, Terra Cotta) are stocked year-round in Saskatoon and Regina. Quickclean, Wood Reviver, and Wood Stripper are stocked too. Prep brushes (7" Deck Boss, 2.5" cutting-in) are stocked. Yes. The 19-colour Colourtone line includes 9 stocked-at-TUDS tints plus 10 special-order colours (Pecan, Bark, Light Oak, Honeycomb, Rustic Gold, White Wash, Smokey Grey, Blue Slate, Graphite Grey, Clear). Special-order ships in 7-10 days direct from Cutek's Canadian warehouse. Call either store to order any Colourtone not on the live shop page.

Use the coverage calculator above — it reads live Cutek Extreme pricing from Shopify. Quick math: a typical 320 ft² Prairie deck (16' x 20') needs roughly 1 to 1.3 US gallons at one prepped coat — exactly what the 3.6L jug delivers. A 600+ ft² deck or a deck-plus-fence combo is where the 18.9L pail starts paying for itself. Coverage varies hard with wood condition: rough-sawn or weathered wood drinks more oil than dressed/new lumber.
