Is joist tape overkill for pressure-treated wood?

Not really. Canadian PT wood is better than it used to be, but the chemicals don’t soak all the way into the middle, and screws or saw cuts still invite moisture in overtime. Joist tape saves you early deck repairs (and framing replacements that cost far more than the tape ever will).

Do I need both tape and sealer, or is one enough?

If we had to choose just one, tape gives you the best protection for joist tops but leaves corners and cut ends more vulnerable. Liquid sealer on cut ends and awkward junctions is always money well spent. For the best result: tape for tops, sealer for trickier spots.

Will tape work in cold weather installs?
